CHIMAYO is a church sanctuary set about half way between Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is known internationally as a place of healing, and many a crutch has been left at the Santuario. About 20 years ago, a young blind boy (George Mendoza) went there to receive a healing, and although he did not regain his sight, he regained his reason for living. George left a poem at the church which I set to music. This song has Bonnie Raitt adding her stunning voice on harmony vocal.

(Pamela Polland)
lyrics adapted from "A Poem From A Blind Man" by George Mendoza.

I am blind, I've traveled many miles
To a place called Chimayo,
It's a place I love, in its silence and its peace,
To this heaven I must go.

Where the sun falls asleep without regret,
It's that old country feeling I can't forget.
Settled by a people with a friendly hand,
Where they still tell stories about miracles in the land,

If you are a stranger, weary from the struggles of life,
Follow that long mountain road,
You may have a handicap, you may have a broken heart,
You'll find a home in Chimayo.

Where the sun falls asleep without regret,
It's that old country feeling I can't forget.
Graceful as a flower in the summer breeze,
Nestled in a valley with wild berry trees,

I am blind, I've traveled many miles
To this Santuario,
