Please Mr DJ

from Pamela Polland by Pamela Polland

about

During her early years at Columbia Records, Pamela often went to New York where she befriended a man who had a Saturday morning radio show. She liked to imagine he was speaking to her through the musical choices he played on his show. Some years later, a DJ in Germany picked this song as the theme song for what became an immensely popular show that lasted 25 years on Radio Bremen. The DJ, Christian Gunther, passed away in 2004, but Pamela will always dedicate this song to him.

lyrics

Please Mr. DJ
(Pamela Polland)

Please Mr. DJ, play me a song,
Something romantic I can drift away on
Oh, I'm not alone when I turn my radio on.

Please Mr. DJ, play me a song,
Something real happy so I can have fun
Oh, I'm not alone when I turn my radio on.

Monday through Friday I work hard all week
But on Saturday morning, you comfort me, you comfort me

With someone else's words, and someone else's voice
Mr. DJ., speak to me by your careful choice
The records you play don't interfere
It's only you I hear.
