about
This was Pamela’s “signature song” in the early 70’s. First of all, it describes the magic she felt living in the foothills of Mt. Tamalpais in Mill Valley, CA, long before it became “chic” to live there. And then, when Pamela played this song at live performances, she always did long, creative jams at the end of the song, bringing the audience into a spell of that magic, and showing her passionate creative spontaneity. No recording could ever do justice to the live enchantment of Abalone Dream.
lyrics
Abalone Dream
(Pamela Polland)
Well, I woke up this morning, it was an abalone day
I looked down at my magic ring, now, tell me what did it say?
It said, "Pamela, let's go up to the mountain, let's find a little mountain stream
And maybe we'll float down river in an abalone dream."
So, I went up to magic mountain and I walked all the way
Time didn't much matter, that's because time's got nothin' to say
Whoa, I found a little tricklin' river, now, I've got no reason to lie
I just built me a raft out of a make believe laugh, and I sailed off into the sky.
Oh yes, I did float down river
Oh yes, I did float down river
Oh yes, I did float down river
In an abalone dream
When some folks get lonely, and some folks get sad
I've got a simple song to make everybody glad
When some folks get gloomy and they can't figure why
I just get 'm to sing along and it makes everybody high
High like the mountain that's above my home town
High like the old days when we all sat around and
Held hands and joined voices, and sang songs all night
And got higher and higher in that good party life
And we sang, come to life, come to life, we can make a party out of livin'
Oh yes we sang, come to life, come to life, we can make a party out of livin'
Come to life, come to life, we can make a party out of livin'
Come to life, come to life, we can make a party out of livin'
